MURANO
Founded on ancestral know-how, Murano glass production in the 20th century was part of a vast movement of artistic modernization. From the interwar period onward, the opening of glassworks to creators from the decorative arts and architecture fostered unprecedented collaborations, marked by experimentation with materials and the reinterpretation of traditional techniques. In the 1950s, when Murano works were presented at the Venice Biennales, this modernity was expressed through a simplification of forms, a search for the purity of volumes, and an exploration of color and transparency. From the 1980s onward, glassmaking shifted toward the creation of unique pieces, conceived as means of personal expression. Bringing together nearly two hundred and fifty works from public and private collections, the exhibition thus highlights thirty major artists of Murano glass art, from 1920 to the present day.
