Pierre d’Avesn and Verlys

The little-known artist Pierre Girre (1901-1990), better known by his pseudonym Pierre d’Avesn, nevertheless created numerous glass object designs commissioned and produced by French glassworks and crystal manufacturers. In Normandy, he worked from 1936 to 1940 for Verlys, the glassworks in Les Andelys, where he created various forms of vases and tableware in molded pressed glass, decorated with geometric lines and stylized motifs, thus contributing to the rise of modern design and the democratization of glass art. Following the recent discovery of several drawings by the artist, the François Décorchemont glass museum presents them in its graphic arts cabinet, alongside objects produced by Verlys.
