Glas
This short documentary from 1958, filmed in the glassworks of Leerdam and Schiedam, shows the work of glassblowers. But it is above all thanks to superb editing, a veritable ballet of hands at work and the sequence of mechanical movements of the machines, that it constitutes a true cinematic tour de force. The importance of human intervention in this industry is illustrated by the scene where we hear Haanstra's own voice counting the bottles on the conveyor belt, until one of them breaks… The film received the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Subject in 1960.
